The standout highlights

The Rock Church (Temppeliaukio) was blasted directly into the granite bedrock and is Helsinki's most photographed building. The Suomenlinna sea fortress spans six islands and tells three centuries of maritime history. Art lovers will want to visit the Ateneum, Finland's national gallery, the underground Amos Rex and Kiasma for contemporary art.

For an overview of the city, the summer months bring the Hop-on Hop-off double-decker bus with 14 stops, while winter is served by the guided Panoramic City Bus Tour. The boat cruises show you Helsinki's coastline and archipelago from the water.
